The client-supplier relationship: building trust
Trust is the most valuable asset in a long-term client-supplier relationship. Nine principles for laying the first blocks of trust from the start.

The client-supplier relationship is a dynamic in which both parties bring the complexity of the human factors involved. It falls to the supplier, in its role of service, to lead the process and facilitate the human interaction with its client, pursuing the key condition for building a solid, lasting relationship: the generation of trust.
Trust is built in medium- and long-term relationships through the good experiences the client incorporates into its perception of the supplier: it validates the supplier's honesty, capability, commitment, and loyalty to the stated objectives, confirms the real value of its offering, and stops spending energy staying alert to possible failures. The natural question is: how do you lay the first blocks of trust in the early stages?
Nine principles for generating trust
- Respect: show, in language and conduct, authentic respect for people and for the company's rules, procedures, and culture.
- Empathy: understand the doubts and fears of those involved, validate them, and bring clarity to ease them.
- Truthfulness: act honestly and stick to the truth, with transparency and mutually agreed indicators — including communicating problems or bad news.
- Dialogue and integration: create semi-structured conversation spaces to come together as a team co-responsible for the project and express ideas and emotions throughout it.
- Impeccable execution: evidence of effective, productive delivery under high quality standards is one of the greatest generators of trust.
- Good management: coordination and a shared vision through joint plans, timely resourcing, permanent follow-up, and early detection of deviations.
- Communication: regular formal channels for plans, progress, results, and indicators, enriched with informal day-to-day communication.
- Feedback: two-way mechanisms at the company, team, and individual level, redirecting when needed and giving certainty about performance.
- Celebration: spaces that strengthen human bonds, recognize the team's work, and celebrate achievements.
The trust a company builds with its clients is one of its most valuable assets: thanks to trust a company rehires a supplier, recommends it, and a project moves faster with better results.
