ATHENA: a new optimization engine, from R&D to production

From its earliest days, Aleph5 has combined mathematical modeling and optimization. Today we introduce ATHENA, a new optimization engine moving from R&D to production and taking Ernest® toward a more flexible, open, multi-solver ecosystem.

For many years, Aleph5 has been building optimization models to solve complex industrial decisions.

But our story with optimization technology actually goes much further back.

In the early days of Aleph5, Ernest® combined our own mathematical modeling capabilities with a proprietary optimization solver.

As the optimization industry evolved, we partnered with leading commercial solver technologies, allowing us to concentrate our R&D efforts on Ernest and on developing increasingly sophisticated decision applications.

Years later, we started asking ourselves a simple question:

What if we could once again control the complete optimization ecosystem?

At the end of 2024, Aleph5 decided to take that challenge seriously, joining forces with a Texas-based technology startup to accelerate the development of a new optimization engine.

We called it ATHENA.

The journey has brought back something we know very well: the adrenaline of R&D.

After an extensive period of development, testing and benchmarking against real-world optimization models, ATHENA is now taking an important step:

From R&D to production.

We are beginning the deployment of ATHENA in real industrial applications.

And with it, Ernest continues its evolution toward a more flexible, open and multi-solver optimization ecosystem.

Model. Solve. Decide.

More coming soon.
